If you need to identify shaft failure modes, understand drive control characteristics, or measure the loading conditions to properly size gears, spindles, and couplings, then Torque Testing is required. Although monitoring motor current can provide a reasonable measure of transmitted torque during steady state conditions, it fails to accurately represent the torsional conditions which occur during transient events. Torque testing, on the other hand, can accurately capture what occurs during machine starts, process changes, TAFs (Torque Amplification Factor), and intermittent process related events.

How Torque Testing Works

IVC Technologies uses wireless strain-gage based digital torque telemetry to make direct torque measurements that can be used for the following:

IVC Technologies has the capability to measure torque on multiple shafts on multiple drives simultaneously to determine individual drive characteristics as well as drive control interactions. Our experienced analysts also apply a multi-technology approach during torque testing to build a more comprehensive picture including accelerometers, tachometers, displacement measurements, and process control and feedback signals. The same strain gage technology used for torque testing can also be used to measure bending or axial loading on shafts, which can often lead to early gear and bearing failures.
