What is Operating Deflection Shape Analysis?
ODS is a powerful diagnostic tool for measuring and visualizing how a machine or structure vibrates during operation. By capturing the vibrational patterns, we can identify potential issues and recommend solutions that will improve reliability and long term performance.
Our Proven Process
On the onset of the project, our team visits your site to install our advanced data acquisition system. Data we collect is then used to analyze/visualize and provide clear representations of operating deflection shapes, which helps us understand dynamic behavior of your equipment and pinpoint problem areas. We use high channel count systems to reduce data collection time, while ensuring high data quality.
Using a reference accelerometer, tri-axial response measurements are recorded at multiple points on the structure and machinery. The Frequency Response Function (FRF) of each measurement point is calculated.
The FRF is then imported into a three-dimensional model of the structure and machinery. Animations of the Operating Deflection Shapes can then be generated to determine how the structure is moving. The animations can easily show if loose mounting conditions, localized structural issues, main structure issues, or foundational issues exist.
Since the animations are three-dimensional, the results of the ODS testing can be used to determine the root cause, and recommend how to efficiently and correctly address main issues.
As the final part of our engagement, our expert will provide a comprehensive report detailing our findings and recommendations.
