When it comes to asset condition management, getting as much quality data in the least amount of time possible allows vibration analysts to focus on advancing plant reliability rather than waiting for data collection.
Enter VIBSCANNER 2
The VIBSCANNER 2 is a high-end data collector with the ability to multitask and collect more than one channel of data simultaneously. In fact, it can collect up to three channels at the same time. It is PRUFTECHNIK’s newest condition monitoring device which easily and effectively measures machine vibration on rotating equipment while requiring only the smallest amount of user training. Creating this innovative data collector required a paradigm shift for our employees.
Why a paradigm shift?
For 30 years, IVC has put skilled analysts in the field for data collection so the analyst becomes a sensor/data collector for data that’s not quantifiable. A skilled analyst performs first-pass analysis while at the machine, allowing our customers to respond more quickly/efficiently to significant problems. The downside is that there is additional expense associated with the deployment of premium personnel for something that could theoretically be done by others.
Nevertheless, today’s businesses demand greater productivity – with better quality – in a more cost-effective manner. Getting quality analysis (i.e., results) with reduced cost is not an easy solution to develop. The VIBSCANNER 2 is multichannel capable, having a high dynamic range (24-bit ADC), intuitive interface, with a color touch screen and long battery life. This device affords advanced data collection techniques that are possible with PRUFTECHNIK’s most recent software (OMNITREND® Center), while not confusing the user with information they may not understand such as spectral data.
Collecting quality vibration data at the right location during the right operating conditions requires a knowledge of vibration fundamentals and a clear understanding of the machinery being monitored. IVC believes that accurate analysis of data collected by a non-analyst is possible if three conditions are met:
Training
- Vibration fundamentals
- Machinery construction and operating characteristics
- Sensor placement for optimum data collection
Knowledge of the data collector, sensors, and underlying software
- Indications/Alarms
- Sensors/Options
Ownership of the equipment
- Belief that Condition Monitoring benefits the company’s bottom line
Keeping the Quality Triangle intact
With the Quality Triangle, each corner represents three wants: quality, cost and time, and in many situations, companies must compromise on at least one aspect.
For instance, if we want data collection with high quality and low expense, it will take too long to deliver. Or if we want it cheap and fast, then the quality suffers. However, when IVC uses the PRUFTECHNIK platform, we have the opportunity to partner with our customer without compromising any quality, cost or time:
- Program costs are reduced because data collection is performed by plant personnel using the VIBSCANNER 2
- Response is rapid when machinery develops problems between scheduled routes
- Data collected is higher quality because plant personnel have intimate knowledge of the equipment and process
The condition monitoring industry is always evolving. At IVC, we pride ourselves on remaining on the cutting edge of our industry’s latest technology and training advancements. We believe that our partnership with PRUFTECHNIK will greatly benefit our customers. Improved quality, reduced cost and reduced time can be a reality for plant personnel utilizing VIBSCANNER 2 for data collection and IVC for data analysis.
